I Just spent all afternoon with ICON's Jonathan Ward talking about derelicts, 409's and Mercedes wagons. What do you guys wanna know about derelicts? I'll do a more exhaustive write up about the shop (with a video) soon but I'm too swamped with LAAS stuff right now.
I learned that Jonathan is pretty much a modern day renaissance man. He loves supporting American businesses, and owns all kinds of different cars. I learned that there is a waiting list until 2017 for the derelicts and people pay a $50,000 deposit just to get in line! I can assure you that the attention to detail and quality of engineering is just as OCD as you think it is and the cars are total art pieces. So ask me anything about ICON derelicts!

What was the most surprising thing you saw/learned?

Interesting. Consider me ignorant, but what exactly is a derelict? Something that has been hauled out of a field/junk yard, and done up?

Early fifties Buicks are the most evil looking things in the right light/angle.

It is! It's actually Hemi V8 powered as I recall and not a Cummins diesel like the other one. It's actually not a derelict but will be receiving the full ICON treatment.

These are cars that look like rusty junkers but have custom chassis, trick suspension, modern engines and modern creature comforts. A really cool idea and more can be found here http://www.icon4x4.com/dr/derelicts/g…

Definitely the waiting list! They're working on 4 derelicts, have 6 more outside waiting their turn and you have to wait until 2017 before they can even start on 'your' car after you've given them a $50,000 deposit. The demand for these cars is crazy!

I would get one if I could afford it. I just love what they do at Icon.

Oh me too brother. They cost a fortune but these cars are real pieces of craftsmanship. Those guys are artisans.
